The Home of CricketIf you are a true Cricket fan then there is only one place to visit – Lords, the home of Cricket. I’ve watched test matches all over the country. Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston near Birmingham , and I’ve also been to the oval, but nothing can compare to being able to stroll past the placards of bygone cricketers achievements at the ground. The feeling of great history permeates the place and it just feels special. True, the atmosphere during the game can sometimes be a little less exciting than at other grounds, but the austere surroundings more than make up for this. Lords also tends to be a ground that produces special matches, so the chance of seeing a great innings, or a fabulous and historic spell of bowling is more likely here than anywhere else in the British Isles. The only problem with Lords is that it can be a little tricky to locate from central London, so the best advice is to make the trip a full trip away and book yourself into cheap hotels in London in order to make it to the ground on time in the morning. Surprisingly, there a number of very well priced hotels in the near vicinity of Lords that are really rather nice. You might also come across some attractive guest houses too but these are a little more hit and miss than the professional establishments. However you put together your trip, you must really make sure you take in the atmosphere of Lords. There will never be another place like it. |
